Four elements part II

Part II

Wooly and Hilda go to the bonfire.

fire

Fire greets them happily. It is usually happy and it is happy now.

Nice to see you girls, it says.

– Hello Fire, answer the children.

– What do you want from me? it asks.

– We have to write about four elements. Tell us something about youself please.

– I am hot and dangerous.

– Why are you dangerous?

– Because I can destroy anything in nature.

– Why?

Nothing is endless. Everything must finish and sometimes I destroy it.
I also give energy. When you burn wood, you get back the energy of the Sun. Trees cumulate this energy when they grow and I give it back. It is a chemical reaction.

– Wow, this is magic! shout the pigs.

– No magic but nature, kids, says Fire.

– Thank you Fire, say the children, we have to go to the Earth now. Bye!

– Bye little pigs!

earth

They dig in the leaves, eat some acorns and see the earth below.

– Earth, what is your role in nature? they ask.

– I am a mixture of minerals and  different components. Plants take my minerals with their roots and grow.

– But they grow when they eat the air! interrupts Wooly.

– You learn fast, little pig. Yes, they eat the gas from the air but they also eat the minerals and the energy of the Sun. And then animals eat plants or different animals. And when animals or plants die, they….

– They get into a hole in you and… And what? interrupts Hilda.

– And little animals which live in me decompose them into minerals.

– Wow, so this is a cycle! say the children fascinated.

– Yes little pigs, everything in nature changes in cycles.

– Thank you Earth, now we know a lot.

They come back home and shout to their family:

– It is a very interesting homework!

And they tell everything to them.
