Artie learns shapes

Artie has problems at school. He can’t understand maths. It is difficult for him to remember shapes. His parents – Squirrely and Willy make up an educative trip for him. Artie likes history very much. They take him to a beautiful palace built by people. Artie is very excited. He doesn’t know there is a trick in this trip – the bushes in the garden are beautifully cut into various shapes.
They visit the palace and go to the garden to have a picnic. They stop at a round bush.

– What shape, do you think, is it? asks mum.
– I don’t know, says Artie.
– This is a circle, says dad.
They see another round bush. It is huge.

– Let’s climb it! shouts Artie.
– Ok, say the parents. We are climbing a bush which looks like a circle, repeat the parents on the way up. They are happy and they laugh.
From the top, Artie sees another bush.
– Let’s climb that bush! he exclaims.
– Ok, but only if you say what shape it is.
– It is a square, isn’t it? says Artie.
– No, it’s a rectangle. Rectangle has two sides longer than the other two.
– I see, says Artie. It is a rectangle, he repeats.

So they climb the rectangle bush.
– There is one more shape here, says dad Willy from the top of the bush. Can you see it?
– I can’t, replies Artie.
– It is a triangle, look there, says mum Squirelly and she shows Artie another plant.
So they climb the triangle bush.

In this way Artie doesn’t even know when he learns shapes.
What a great idea his parents had!

This story I made up together with my student Marysia to the photos taken by me. Thank you Marysia!
