Christmas salad

It was one day before Christmas. Arnold and Nelly wanted to prepare Christmas feast. They liked this human festival and wanted to celebrate it.  They started to prepare the meals.
– What can we cook first? asked Cygnet.
– Let’s make a vegetable salad, said Nelly.
– This is a good idea, said Arnold.  Salads are healthy. I like them! If we give some of it to Pepi, she may recover soon.
Poor Pepi, their adopted daughter, was ill at that moment.
– What do we need? asked Cygnet.
– Carrots, potatoes, parsley, peas, corn, pickled cucumbers, eggs, answered Nelly.
– What have we got? asked Arnold.
– Not much.We only have got some eggs from our friends hens and potatoes. We need to go to the shop.

– I can go! shouted Cygnet.
– All right. Buy 3 carrots, 1 parsley, 1 tin of peas, 1 tin of corn, 1 jar of pickled cucumbers please. Here is the money, said Nelly.
Cygnet went to the shop. She came back soon and brought the vegetables for the salad.
– I  bought: a tin of peas, a tin of corn, a jar of pickled cucumbers and some carrots.  I didn’t buy the parsley. They didn’t have any, she informed the parents.
– It’s OK, said Nelly.

Everybody started to make the salad. They cooked the eggs, carrots and potatoes.
Cygnet choppped the carrots. Nelly chopped the potatoes and the pickled cucumbers. Arnold chopped the eggs and took the corn and peas out of the tins.

Later Arnold mixed everything in a big bowl. They added spices and some  mayonnaise. The salad looked so tasty, that they didn’t wait for Christmas but ate some at once.
