It is the New Year’s Eve. The pigs are celebrating at different parties in Gruntland, Snoutland, Mudland and other places. Cygnet with her stepsister Pepi and her boyfriend Groom are going for a walk after the party. It’s a snowy and beautiful evening, there are no clouds and they can see all the stars.
Suddenly Pepi can hear a weak squeak.
– Can you hear it? says Pepi. What is it?
– I don’t know, says Groom.
– Look, there is a bat in the tree, says Cygnet.
– Help me please! says the bat.
– What’s happened? ask the pigs.
– I ate too much at the New Year’s Eve party. I was tired on my way back home and I entered a hole in this tree to get some rest. I’m too fat and I cant leave, help me, please!
– How is it possible – you entered the hollow but you can’t leave it now? wonders Groom.
– I really don’t know cries the bat.
The hole is high in the tree. The pigs can’t reach it. Pepi climbs the tree. Groom and Cygnet help her. Pepi pulls and pulls bat’s legs. Cygnet pulls Pepi’s legs and Groom pulls Cygnet. Finally they manage to pull the bat out of the hollow. Everybody falls on the snow. Fortunatelly nobody is hurt.
– Wow, you are really fat! says Pepi
– I know, it was very stupid to eat that much, says the bat. Thank you very much friends.
– What’s your name? asks Cygnet.
– My name is Nikodem – introduces himself the bat. Nice to meet you.
The pigs tell their names.
– We can’t leave you here, Nikodem, says Cygnet. Come to my house and stay overnight. I hope my parents agree. My father is a doctor. If you need some medical treatment, he can help you.
